Hitler’s Girl : The British Aristocracy and the Third Reich on the Eve of WWII Lauren Young

Did you think that Unity Mitford was a silly young girl carried away by the Nazis who developed a mad crush on Hitler? Did you think that she was mentally ill? Think again! Acccording to Lauren Young, she was far more dangerous than we thought, and Young also has explosive and shocking questions about a possible major cover-up of Unity's antics.

Young argues that there is a thin line between democracy and fascism which can easily be crossed if we let down our guard, and she writes about the links between the British aristocracy and even the middle-class with Nazism. She writes about such characters as Diana Mitford and Anna Wolkoff, a far right Russian involved in a secretive but powerful group. The history is fascinating.

However, I am not sure that her case is convincing, as far as today's politics are concerned. Although history is very useful for studying the future and we live in terrifying times similar to the 1930s, this argument seemed somewhat exaggerated, I thought.

I received this free ebook from Edelweiss.plus in return for an honest review.

I actually did not think that Unity was far more dangerous than most historians have suggested. She was totally besotted with the Fuhrer and impressed with Nazi thinking, but she struck me as rather stupid and totally obsessive. After all, she was told to return to the UK in 1939 .. and she did! A truly dangerous woman would have either stayed in Germany or moved to Britain to promote German interests. Instead, on the day war was declared, Unity shot herself in the head, survived, returned to Britain and achieved nothing.

But it might be important to read Hitler's Girl to see any information we have missed.
Many thanks for the link

I think Unity was to be pitied rather than pilloried. I believe the Mitford parents split up over opposing political views.
