The Ghosts of Rome Joseph O'Connor
The ‘Books’ are hiding in Rome. They are everywhere- in tunnels, in doorways, walking bedraggedly along hidden cobbled lanes, hiding in the midst of crowds. The Choir led by Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty attempts to save these Allied escaped prisoners and airmen from the Vatican but the malignant SS Commander Paul Hauptmann is only one step behind, forever watching. He has his eye on the brave Countess Giovanna Landini, my favourite, but the other characters include a rebellious young Irishwoman and a mysterious parachutist.
This is an unforgettable, thrilling and haunting novel which takes you right into the heart of Rome in the midst of war as the Choir courageously tries to save these men against huge odds. It’s a good idea to read My Father’s House first but I found this one more atmospheric.
I received this free ebook from Edelweiss in return for an honest review.
