Almost Nothing Happened by Meg Rosoff

This is another novel that I found a bit depressing and somewhat too political but I can see that a YA audience is likely to love it. It starts with Callum who feels like a failure after his stay with a snobbish French family and his rejection by the beautiful Elodie. Finding himself stranded in Paris, he somehow sets off on a whirlwind adventure concerning a lost oboe and a priceless Matisse painting with the help of Lilou, who has several of her own problems. Along the way, Callum has to rely largely on his own resources, at one stage hitching a ride with a bus full of Texans. He becomes much more self-confident and also discovers where his heart lies.

I received this free ebook from NetGalley in return for an honest review.
