Background for LovebyHelen Wolff, Marion Detjen, Tristram Wolff, Jefferson Chase Pushkin Press
This is a lyrical story about a young woman who escapes with her older lover from rising Fascism in Germany to the sun-drenched Cote d’Azur. Deeply in love, she becomes gradually disillusioned with her lover as he prefers sophisticated hotels and crowded dance-halls and casinos to the simpler country life, and he takes rather too much notice of a woman from his past. He is also bossy, possessive and easily jealous.
However, when she does decide to assert her independence, renting a cottage in the idyllic countryside, surrounded by green fields and olive trees, she has to decide what she wants when her lover comes back…
This is such a beautifully-written, haunting and atmospheric novel. You almost feel that you are living in the ravishing countryside of the Cote d’Azur when you read it, the descriptions are so colourful and vivid! There’s always the background of the looming war, though…
I received this free ebook from Edelweiss.plus in return for an honest review.
