The Foyles Bookshop Girls' Promise A BRAND NEW instalment in Elaine Roberts' emotional wartime saga series for 2025 by Elaine Roberts
This was easy reading and an enjoyable story set in World War One. I really like this series with its camaraderie between the girls and its setting of a bookshop. They are all modern young independent women working for their living.
However, I found the plot of this one a bit weak. Rosie, the main character, is torn between two brothers, and anxious to keep her promise to one of them. She was just too passive and put up with too much for my liking, though, before she realised what her true feelings were. Probably, many women were like that in those days, but she got on my nerves a bit! I liked the other girls more.
I received this free ebook from NetGalley in return for an honest review.
