Vintage 1954 by Laurain, Jane Aitken, Emily Boyce

This is a lovely, quirky, romantic novel about a group of people who drink a special bottle of wine which takes them back to 1954. There they lead a more innocent life but they also come across celebrities, such as Salvador Dali and Audrey Hepburn. The characters include the American Bob, pining for his wife who can’t travel with him, Julien, a bartender, and Magalie, an artist.

We see how travelling back to 1954 changes each character as they become more confident and how memories and hidden traumas affect their present selves and come to light. The themes of time-travel, science and the search for meaning and love intersect in this charming book, even though it is only short.

This charming novel is definitely a keeper and I am looking forward to reading more of Antoine Laurain’s books.

I received this free novel from Edelweiss in return for an honest review,
