The Soldier's Daughter by Fiona McIntosh

I am a big fan of Fiona McIntosh, and her books seem to get better and better. Unfortunately, I haven’t read the first one in this series, but the story stands on its own. Ranging from Scotland to Australua to France, it tells two stories — those of Violet and her father Charlie. Violet is determined to become a whisky distiller like her father, but the war interrupts a growing business in Tasmania, especially when Charlie decides to play his part. Left on her own, Violet has to cope with the business, and eventually choose what she really wants in life..

This was such a moving and haunting story. Violet is such a strong and resilient character and so is her father. Their story of sacrifice and the true meaning of life is truly memorable.

I received this free ebook from NetGalley in return for an honest review.
