Morality for Beautiful Girls by Alexander McCall Smith

I don't like this as much as McCall Smith's Scottish Isabel series, but it is an enjoyable, relaxing read which takes you to the sunlit plains of Botswana where Precious Ramotswe runs her detective business with the help of her trusty assistant Mma Makutsi. Together with Mr Makatoni, Precious's fiancée, these idiosyncratic and charming characters become like old friends. You really do feel that it would be a pleasure to sit and have a cup of bush tea with them.

The first novel was a bit creepy, so it has taken me a long time to start on the rest. In this third one, Precious has a lot on her mind. She has to help Mr Makatoni, who seems to have fallen to pieces, and leave her assistant in charge, while she investigates the arrogant 'government man's case. He suspects that his brother's wife is trying to poison him.

Mma Makutsi also has a lot to do. She runs Mr Makatoni's business while he is away, and she is also faced with a detective case of her own, which brings up her insecurities about finding a husband. Not as confident as Precious, in some ways she is more interesting.

I got this on holidayfrom the Lympstone Book Sill Supporting Lifeboats years ago. I read it for the Rose City Reader's 22 for '22 Book Challenge
