A Little More Love. The Life and Legacy of Olivia Newton-John by Matthew Hild

Olivia Newton-John, like Delta Goodrem now, was once Australia’s ‘Golden Girl,’ loved by almost everyone. Olivia will certainly always have a special place in my heart. I had all of her records, and even went to see her in concert with a friend. It was a wonderful performance, too.

This book covers everything — her difficult rise to fame, her romances and marriage, the collapse of Koala Blue, her battle with cancer, and her greatest legacy, The Olivia Newton-John Cancer, Wellness and Research Centre. It’s extremely detailed, and factual. The problem is that this makes it very dry, and difficult to read. Still, there was some information that I didn’t know, for example, about Olivia’s friendship with Karen Carpenter, and Andy Gibb. Both of their deaths were upsetting, and Olivia herself died too soon. I’m sure that many Australians cried when she passed away.

There are some lovely anecdotes. For example, she and Pat Ferrar sang in a club in England, where their singing didn’t go down well. They didn’t realise that it was a strip club, and the men were just waiting for them to take their clothes off!

The book does convey just what a truly beautiful soul Olivia was.

I received this free ebook from NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I can’t resist this. Here are my two favourite songs of Olivia’s:
