Earls and Girls by Madeleine Bingham
This book about mostly working-class girls who became the mistresses or the wives of aristocrats was very light and good fun to read. There were some interesting court cases in it. I especially liked the story of Gertie Millar who defied her parents, who worked in the mill, to become an actress at 13, and went on to great success.
It was enjoyable, but it’s going to the book fair.
I read this for Rose City Reader’s TBR 26 in 26 Challenge.
