Enough Already Learning to Love the Way I Am Today by Valerie Bertinelli
I have always been a fan of Valerie Bertinelli and seen some of her movies, and it was a joy to read this lovely book.
Bertinelli struggled with her weight ever since she became an actress as a teenager, specifically ten pounds. But these ten pounds represented other struggles - low self-esteem, having a harsh inner critic, constantly wanting to please others, for example. Finally, she discovered notes about the strong women in her family, and she decided that it was 'enough already'. She decided to concentrate on being happy with herself, and finding love, forgiveness and peace. I wasn't happy to learn that this involves constant work, but it is, of course, worth it.
This isn't a chronological autobiography, but Valerie describes her acting career, troubled marriage, her relationship with her former husband, the late Ed Van Halen, and her relationship with her parents, and taking care of her dying mother. She also writes about her decision to take up a cooking career.
This is a fascinating journey toward self-discovery, which many people will find helpful.
I received this free ebook from NetGalley in return for an honest review.
