A Rose Petal Summer by Katie Fforde

A long-lost love, stunning Scottish scenery and a secret perfume. What could be better? I enjoyed this romance by Katie Fforde, who has been called a 'modern Jane Austen' by RED Magazine, more than the last one, although it was quite unbelievable. On the other hand, it's fairy tale-like story is part of its charm!

When Caro meets Alec on a holiday in Greece and he tells her about his secret dream of making perfume, she falls instantly in love.  Unfortunately, they only have time to talk in a cafe before she has to leave. Several years later Caro is single again with a daughter, and she spots a job caring for Alec's father in Scotland . Luckily, Alec is separated from his irritating ex-wife Skye, but will the attraction still be there? Will he even recognise her?

There are some engaging twists and turns in this story, involving Alec's secret ambition, Scarlett, a young up-and-coming actress, and Rowan, Alec's daughter. Skye was meant to be irritating, but her character seemed rather over-the-top. Alec and Caro were lovely characters.

I read this for Rose City Reader's 22 for '22 Challenge. Hopefully, there will be a 2023 challenge as well, which I can start in January, and make more headway!
