Tales from the Fast Trains Europe at 186 MPH Tom Chesshyre
Whether you want to relax and enjoy virtual travelling, or you want to discover Europe by fast trains from London, this is the book for you! Tom Chesshyre and his girlfriend E whisked themselves away by fast trains to different cities, and towns in Europe as an experiment to see to how many places they could travel for weekends, and how far they could go. They enjoyed luxury in Lausanne, beautiful Bruges, and chateau-hunting in the Loire Valley. They learned about the Dukes of Burgundy, famous mistresses in the chateaus, and even see where Wallis and Edward VIII got married.
I enjoyed this book, and I'd like to read more by Tom Chesshyre. He writes in an intimate and cosy style, so that you really feel that you are enjoying the journey with him. His exceedingly good-natured girlfriend E made wry comments along the way, and the couple got into some amusing situations. His descriptions are detailed, and vivid, and I liked his observations about the people in all the different places.
This book was published in 2011, so there are probably even more places to explore by train from London now! However, they got as far as Spain for the weekend! Here they stay at a strange hotel in beautiful Girona, and they see the surreal Dali museum in Figueres. Tom was impressed by his experiment, and decided to continue exploring Europe by fast train.
I would like to know who E is, and whether Tom married her. She apparently wrote a book, which I'd like to look up as well.
This was sitting on my shelves for years - I am not sure why! I read it for the TBR '23 for 23 Challenge by Rose City Reader.
