The girl from Lake Maggiore by by Siobhan Dai

This is an epic love story based on real partisans on the shores of Lake Maggiore. When Raffaele and Guilia begin hiding Jews in a hotel in Marta, their naivity leads them into great dangers and they are supposed to become part of the Italian resistance. Raffaele thinks that Guilia is a spoiled brat and Guilia regards Raffaele as bossy and arrogant but as they carry out the courageous and exciting work, They realised that they are developing feelings for each other.

It’s an exciting but fairly simply written book and I thought that there were a few minor flaws in it. For example, Raffaele told a few people that he was working for the partisans, which I doubt that he would’ve done in real life. Guilia’s Escape also seemed a little too easy.

Be warned, it’s pretty harrowing but it’s also interesting and enjoyable and I’ll be interested in reading more books by this author. I especially like the historical notes at the end.

I receive this free  book from NetGalley in return for an honest review.
