The Real Alma Mahler Composer, Socialite, Rebel and Influencer by Judith Grohmann

This was an enjoyable book about a fascinating woman. Alma Mahler led rather a tragic and turbulent life, suffering from the death of her famous father early, and losing her first husband, the great composer, when she was young. She also lost some of her children. Talented and beautiful, she composed music, had three husbands, and held literary salons in all the various places that she lived. She certainly had terrific energy.

I found her rather unlikeable, though, because she was incredibly anti-Semitic, even though she and her third husband, Franz Werful, left Austria for Los Angeles because of the rise of Nazism! She also insulted him all the time about his being Jewish, but he didn’t leave her even though he was much younger. She was really quite eccentric in many ways.

I received this free ebook from NetGalley in return for an honest review.
