London Rain : A New Mystery Featuring Josephine Tey Nicola Upson
Josephine Tey, successful and ambitious, is working on her new play at the BBC, while the city is alive with excitement about King Edward VIII's Coronation. When a colleague murders her husband, and actually admits to doing it, Josephine can't help getting involved. Vivienne may have killed her husband in cold blood, but is she responsible for even more murders? Josephine and her policeman friend Archie must find out.
This was enjoyable and meticulously researched, capturing the historical atmosphere and excitement well. It also shone a torch into the dark side of London at the time, as Vivienne's sister Olivia ran a seedy nightclub where cocaine was actually brought in by homing pigeons! I really liked these historical details. Although I didn't mind the story about Josephine's love life, the real Josephine was very mysterious and this isn't historically accurate, so it was a bit annoying.
I found this novel a bit wordy at first, but soon I found it difficult to put down, especially at the end! I will definitely read the other books in the series.
I received this free ebook from Edelweis.plus in return for an honest review.
